Introduction:

The latest trend of car theft involves the car being towed away, and also alarm signal capturing where the alarm disabler signal can be traced and duplicated by a thief with the device to capture the signal and use it to disable the alarm. There are many alternatives to prevent car theft, including a common car alarm system which nearly all cars have the system installed, and also a Global Positioning System (GPS) where the whereabouts of the car can be traced. Other alternatives include steering and gear lock, tire lock, hidden “kill” switches that incapacitate fuel flow, and many others.
The project and research are conducted for additional features in the car alarm system. The device can be added to the present car alarm system without any major modification to it. When the car alarm is triggered, through forced entry or motion sensor detection, the in-car phone will send an SMS message to the owner’s mobile phone to alert him or her to check the vehicle. Usually, car owner realizes that their car has been stolen long after the incident, and the car thief probably got away, and disables all the security features in the car, or cannibalized the car for spare parts and expensive items. This happens when the owner is far away from the vehicle to hear the alarm. The SMS message gives an immediate alert to the car owner, even if the thief got away with the car so that the owner can immediately take instant action to notify the local police department or contact the car immobilizer service which comes with most GPS car system to immobilize the vehicle.

Block diagram explanation:
Power supply unit:
This section needs two voltages viz., +12 V & +5 V, as working voltages. Hence specially designed power supply is constructed to get regulated power supplies.
GSM:
GSM Shield (SIM 900a): The SIM900 which is a complete Quad-band GSM/GPRS solution comes in a SMT module that can be embedded in customer applications. Featuring an industry-standard interface, the SIM900 delivers GSM/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900MHz performance for Data, voice, SMS, and Fax in a small form factor and with low power consumption. SIM900 can fit almost all the space requirements in the M2M application with dimensions of 24mm x 24mm x 3 mm. SIM900 is designed with a very powerful single-chip processor integrating AMR926EJ-S core. Quad-band GSM/GPRS module with a size of 24mmx24mmx3mm, SMT type suit for customer application, An embedded Powerful TCP/IP protocol stack Based upon the mature and field-proven platform, backed up by our support service, from definition to design and production.
NOTE: Modem may change.
DTMF decoder:
The DTMF signals transmitted over the FM Transmitter/Receiver units can be received and decoded using a DTMF receiver/decoder IC such as UM92870 or KT3170 or Motorola’s MT8870. The decoded outputs can be suitably used along with certain additional circuitry to design a Call-Line-Identification-Product unit [popularly known as CLIP]. The four hexadecimal outputs obtained from the DTMF receiver/decoder IC corresponding to each digit on the FM Communication key-pad together with the associated dual-tone frequencies
ARM processor:
ARM is a computer processor-based RISC architecture. A RISC-based computer design approach means ARM processors require significantly fewer transistors than typical processors in average computers. This approach reduces costs, heat, and power use. The low power consumption of ARM processors has made them very popular:
The ARM architecture (32-bit) is the most widely used in mobile devices, and the most popular 32-bit one in embedded systems.
ARM processor features include:
- Load/store architecture.
- An orthogonal instruction set.
- Mostly single-cycle execution.
- A 16×32-bit register
- Enhanced power-saving design.
Buffers:
Buffers do not affect the logical state of a digital signal (i.e. a logic 1 input results in a logic 1 output whereas logic 0 input results in a logic 0 output). Buffers are normally used to provide extra current drive at the output but can also be used to regularize the logic present at an interface.
Drivers:
This section is used to drive the relay where the output is the complement of input which is applied to the drive but the current will be amplified.
Relays:
It is an electromagnetic device that is used to drive the load connected across the relay and the o/p of the relay can be connected to the controller or load for further processing.
Indicator:
This stage provides a visual indication of which relay is actuated and deactivated, by glowing respective LED or Buzzer.
Timer:
A timer is a specialized type of clock for measuring time intervals.[1] A timer that counts upwards from zero for measuring elapsed time is often called a stopwatch; a device that counts down from a specified time interval is more usually called a timer.[1] A simple example is an hourglass. Some timers sound an audible indication that the time interval has expired. Time switches, timing mechanisms that activate a switch, are sometimes called “timers”.
Methodology:
A vehicle security system alone is not sufficient to prevent auto theft. Even though the vehicle is equipped with one of the most expensive systems, there are certain circumstances when such systems are useless, when the vehicle is parked in the basement of the office building where the alarm cannot be heard. Sometimes, the alarm siren does not even attract the attention of most of the public because of the mentality of people nowadays that intend to ignore such alarms. With the installation of the SMS feature of this alarm, the vehicle owner can be notified immediately so that he or she can take preventive measures to check their vehicle or save precious time if the vehicle is stolen by informing the police department as soon as possible. In most cases, the owner realized when the vehicle is stolen hours after the theft.
Advantages:
- Vehicle control.
- Vehicle on-off state detection.
- Vehicle safety.
Disadvantages:
GSM Network will not get in all the locations.
Applications:
1. Advocacy.
2. Use as a surveillance device.
3. Automotive.
