Introduction:

“World Report on Disability” (2011) jointly presented by World Health Organization (WHO) and World Bank says that there are 70 million people are handicapped in the world. Unfortunately day by day the number of handicapped people is going on increasing due to road accidents as well as diseases like paralysis. Among all the disabilities percentage of physically handicapped persons is most. If a person is handicapped he is dependent on another person for his day-to-day work like transport, food, orientation, etc. So a voice-operated device control is developed which will operate automatically on the commands from the handicapped user for device control purposes. As an input device voice recognition HM 2007 is used, to recognize the speech signal. This module is used to convert the voice signal into corresponding binary code that is given to the ARM controller, and the ARM controller gives the output according to the voice input and which will be displayed on the LCD and the same information will be transmitted via Zigbee to control the Device. This paper describes the design of an innovative and low-cost self-assistive technology that is used to facilitate the control of home appliances by using advanced voice commands of disabled people. This proposed system will provide an alternative to the physically challenged people with quadriplegics who are permanently unable to move their limbs (but who can speak and hear) and home appliances using their voices to lead an independent, confident, and enjoyable life. The performance of this ARM controller-based and voice-integrated design is evaluated in terms of accuracy and velocity in various environments. The results show that it could be part of assistive technology for disabled persons without any third person’s assistance

Block Diagram Explanation:
Power supply unit
This section needs two voltages viz., +12 V & +5 V, as working voltages. Hence specially designed power supply is constructed to get regulated power supplies.
Voice Recognition IC HM 2007:
The HM2007 is a CMOS voice recognition LSI(Large Scale Integration) circuit. The chip contains an analog front end, voice analysis, regulation, and system control functions.
ARM processor
ARM is computer processor-based RISC architecture. A RISC-based computer design approach means ARM processors require significantly fewer transistors than typical processors in average computers. This approach reduces costs, heat, and power use. The low power consumption of ARM processors has made them very popular:
The ARM architecture (32-bit) is the most widely used in mobile devices, and the most popular 32-bit one in embedded systems.
Zigbee Technology
ZigBee is a specification for a suite of high-level communication protocols used to create personal area networks built from small, low-power digital radios. ZigBee is based on an IEEE 802.15 standard. Though low-powered, ZigBee devices can transmit data over long distances by passing data through intermediate devices to reach more distant ones, creating a mesh network.
Buffers
Buffers do not affect the logical state of a digital signal (i.e. a logic 1 input results in a logic 1 output whereas logic 0 input results in a logic 0 output). Buffers are normally used to provide extra current drive at the output but can also be used to regularize the logic present at an interface
Drivers
This section is used to drive the relay where the output is the complement of input which is applied to the drive but the current will be amplified
Relays
It is an electromagnetic device that is used to drive the load connected across the relay and the o/p of the relay can be connected to the controller or load for further processing.
Methodology:
This project is an innovative and low-cost self-assistive technology that is used to facilitate the control of home appliances by using advanced voice commands of disabled people. This project is developed for people who are physically disabled to lead an independent, confident, and enjoyable life. The main modules in this project are Voice input HM 2007 IC, ARM controller unit and LCD, and Zigbee.
The transmitter will be there with people who are physically disabled and the receiver will be there at the device. The transmitter module has voice input, an ARM controller, and Zigbee as communication media. The receiver has Zigbee, an ARM controller, and devices. If an Operator gives a voice signal to make the device ON or OFF, that information will be given to the ARM controller, then the ARM controller analyses the signal and sends information to the receiver which is present at the device end via Zigbee. At the receiver, the Zigbee receives a signal which was transmitted from the transmitter and sends that to the ARM controller. After receiving the signal the ARM controller will switch ON or OFF the devices based on the user voice signal which was received from the transmitter.
Advantages:
- A handicapped person with a voice can use this and become Independent.
- Requires less wiring because of the Zigbee section.
- Less Hardware requires i.e. compact.
- Economical.
- Reduce manpower.
- User friendly.
Disadvantages:
- One-time investment cost.
- Very rapidly changing input cannot be easily recognized due to Hm 2007 voice kit.
Applications:
- This project can be implemented in Defense, Hospitals, Schools, Companies, etc…..
- This project can be implemented in industrial applications.
- This project can be implemented to control the voice-operated wheelchair.
