Introduction:
This project is an excellent tool for automatic information access & reference. The project is designed to Display the Messages like Tourist Information / Bus timing etc. Here the highlight of the project is its ease of use & flexibility. The project is also associated with a set of Voice Chips, to speak & convey the pre-stored information about a Tourist Place or Bus Timings.
For example, when the project is used for Tourism purposes, the project is made to display information about a tourist spot just by touching the map. When a particular spot is touched, the project displays information like Distance, Bus Fare, timings, etc.
The project is based on Microcontroller 89C51 (which is an Intel Architecture-based chip) Micro-controller Based Displays are widely used where precision and accurate reading should be read on some sort of display unit.
Micro-controller Based Display Units have been with us since the early eighties and their significance has grown enormously over the past few years. They are used as display mechanisms in clocks and other pointer-based instruments, in industrial instruments where field reading should be adjusted, in various testing & measuring tools, and, of course, in commercial handheld gadgets.
Block diagram explanation:
Power supply unit
This section needs two voltages viz., +12 V & +5 V, as working voltages. Hence specially designed power supply is constructed to get regulated power supplies.
Micro Switch:
A micro switch is an electrical switch that can be operated using a very small force and also possibly using a small movement.
The micro switch is a general term and not all micro switches use the same principle but most of them use a stiff metal strip supported by a spring that suddenly flips when a certain force on the switch button is applied. It flips back at a high speed too when the force decreases under a certain limit. The switches use hysteresis so the activation force is higher than the deactivation force. Also, the quick moving of the metal strip produces the typical clicking sound (known for example from computer mouse buttons).
Microcontroller:
The Atmel AT89 series is an Intel 8051-compatible family of 8-bit microcontrollers (µCs) manufactured by the Atmel Corporation. Based on the Intel 8051 core, the AT89 series remains very popular as general-purpose microcontrollers, due to their industry standard instruction set, and low unit cost. This allows a great amount of legacy code to be reused without modification in new applications. While considerably less powerful than the newer AT90 series of AVR RISC microcontrollers, new product development has continued with the AT89 series for the aforementioned advantages.
Buffers
Buffers do not affect the logical state of a digital signal (i.e. a logic 1 input results in a logic 1 output whereas logic 0 input results in a logic 0 output). Buffers are normally used to provide extra current drive at the output but can also be used to regularize the logic present at an interface
Drivers
This section is used to drive the relay where the output is the complement of input which is applied to the drive but the current will be amplified
Relays
It is an electromagnetic device that is used to drive the load connected across the relay and the o/p of the relay can be connected to the controller or load for further processing.
Voicebank:
Voicebank is the recording of one’s natural voice for the possible eventuality of losing one’s voice.
Methodology:
This Active Kiosk with a Speech system is just a starting point for the exploration of Micro-controller chips. Hence it has few hardware parts with supporting software, which is inherited inside the memory of the Micro-controller chip.
The microswitch is connected to the Input Port of the Mother Board, which contains a Micro-controller chip, and output is taken across Output Port and which is connected to the Voice recorder board with the speaker.
The data is to be sent to the 89C51Micro-controller chip by pressing keys on Micro Switch as Input Data. The 89C51 Micro-controller chip receives this data at its Input port and manipulates it with the help of software and sends the final output to Output Port. The Microcontroller will activate the voice recorder to provide a voice announcement of the key press action and displays the same thing on the display.
Advantages:
- Versatile System for Information Display.
- Low power consumption, and compact size,
- High Useful for Blinds due to the Voice Capability,
- Greater control range due to the usage of re-programmable memory banks.
Disadvantages:
- One-time investment cost.
- For other applications, it should be implemented throughout the place.

- Industries, Schools, Colleges, and Companies.
- With the help of high memory, this project can be implemented at Bus stops.
- Transportation.
- The project can be customized to automatically provide all relevant information about Bust Timings, Product Info, Services, etc.,
